IT’S ALSO A SEQUEL. SURPRISED?
The teaser trailer for next year’s London Has Fallen tells you everything you need to know in terms of what to expect. Not only does the teaser trailer spell it out as clear as day, we have also seen this exact same movie before. It’s the sequel to 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen, a film that centers around a terrorist attack on the White House. The film, starring Morgan Freeman, Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart, brought in over $160 million dollars so clearly that was enough to fuel the producers to make a sequel where the only difference to the formula is in the replacement of the United States with the United Kingdom.
Apparently these producers view the idea of being united as a reason to blow shit up and kill a ton of innocent civilians. The aforementioned actors, whom all return for London Has Fallen, are clearly in it for the paycheck because this film probably has as much substance as MTV’s adaptation of Scream.
I understand that London Has Fallen serves as one of the many mindless forms of entertainment that aren’t necessarily meant to be taken seriously. Trust me when I say that I enjoy much of the fluff projected onto movie theater and television screens. Maybe the issue I have with it is the fact that with the addition of London, we now have a movie series that is highlighting global terrorism. The content of these two films bring nothing new or anything remotely original to the table. Maybe that’s why it feels so cheap and inappropriate?
If London Has Fallen performs well at the box office, we might have to endure more sequels embracing international destinations being destroyed. You know what that means, right? It will only be a matter of time until we see the release of Bangkok Has Fallen…but I feel like that might be a completely different kind of film if you catch my drift.
